Parent & Family Handbook

The Parent and Family Handbook contains helpful information for families, including conversation starters, support services offered by St. Thomas, and topics such as mental health, alcohol, relationships, and college culture. The handbook is also available in Hmong, Somali, Spanish.

Welcome Days 2023

Our newest Tommies will engage in Welcome Days, our required new student engagement program, from August 28 - September 8. This comprehensive educational and social program is designed to welcome and prepare our newest Tommies for success at St. Thomas.

Student eBills & Fall Aid Disbursement

Electronic billing (eBilling) statements for the fall semester will be sent by email to all St. Thomas students on August 25. If you are not yet an authorized user on your student's account, we encourage you to discuss with your student to authorize you. The first payment for the fall semester is due September 19.

Jobs on Campus

Encourage your student to explore the many job opportunities on campus. Research indicates students with on-campus jobs are more involved on campus, maintain a higher GPA, and adjust to college life quicker.

Selim Center

The Selim Center provides lifelong learning and intergenerational programming for people 40 and older. Check out the fall schedule. Parents and guardians of current students receive a 50% discount by using the code "Family2023". This code expires on June 3, 2024.

Campus Ministry Programming

Encourage your student to learn about the many opportunities for them to invite God in by exploring the Campus Ministry website or stopping by the Campus Ministry offices in the Iversen Center for Faith. Retreats are offered throughout the year, including a first-year retreat held the last week of September, which is open to all first-year students.

Campus Life Opportunities

We are excited to welcome our newest Tommies and welcome back our current Tommies! Please encourage your student to explore Tommie Link, our online engagement platform. Also, every Wednesday evening, Campus Life sends an email to all students highlighting engagement opportunities around campus that upcoming weekend.

Cheer on Tommies!

There are many opportunities for students and families to support and cheer on our Tommie athletic teams. Purchase tickets to home games online.

Excited to watch Tommie sports, but can't make it campus? The Summit League announces new streaming network.

Family Weekend

This year's Family Weekend will be held September 22-24. Save the date to attend exciting events with your student. The Family Weekend page on Tommie Link will be updated soon with information and the schedule of events.

New Family Orientation

Parents and guardians of new students who missed the in-person orientation sessions (or would like to review a session!) are invited to view the Families of New Students webpage. Recordings of the sessions can be found in the Family Orientations section.

Tuition Insurance Plan

Families may wish to consider an optional Tuition Insurance Plan that provides coverage options for tuition, academic fees, housing, and board when a student withdraws due to a covered medical condition. Coverage must be obtained prior to the end of the 14th calendar day of the term.

Residence Life Updates

Move-In 2023 is quickly approaching! Learn information about move-in and the required Welcome Days for incoming first-year students. Housing information, policies and resources, and how to connect with Residence Life on social media are available on the Residence Life webpage.

Student Diversity & Inclusion Services Fall Programing

Student Diversity and Inclusion Services (SDIS) promotes diversity and social justice awareness for all students through personal interactions, leadership and training opportunities, and various sponsored and co-sponsored educational programs. Encourage your student to get involved!

Ice Cream Social

Student Diversity and Inclusion Services (SDIS) and the Diversity Activities Board (DAB) invite your student to an Ice Cream Social on September 1 from 3-4:15. There will be ice cream and the opportunity to meet other students, the SDIS student interns, and staff.

Center for the Common Good

We connect students with community engagement opportunities to understand today’s most pressing social challenges, build mutually-beneficial relationships, and work toward innovative solutions-all for the common good. Encourage your student to attend the Community Partner & Volunteer Fair on September 14 to learn about engagement activities. Students can register on Tommie Link.

Off-Campus Student Lounge

Students who live off campus are invited to utilize the Off-Campus Student Life Lounge on the second floor of Anderson Student Center. Our lounge allows off-campus students a space to relax, study, and meet with our Off-Campus Student Life staff. Your student is invited to stop in to use our microwave, refrigerator, or desktop computers.

Homecoming 2023

Save the date for Homecoming 2023, October 7. The Homecoming Schedule will be available soon.

Campus Store

The Campus Store is your student's one-stop shop for textbooks, course materials, and Tommie gear. Essentials such as bedding, decor, and cleaning supplies can be ordered through the online ordering system and then picked up during Move-In Week.

Dean of Students Office

Student advocacy and support services are available through the Dean of Students Office. Services include bias or hate reporting, food assistance, sexual misconduct response, referrals for legal advice, assistance for students in recovery, and undocumented student support. We welcome students to stop by to ask any questions they may have, say hello, or grab a piece of chocolate.

Student Loan Repayment Begins

With COVID-19 emergency relief measures ending soon, we encourage alumni to prepare for loan repayment to begin. Learn how to prepare for repayment. As a reminder, students currently enrolled in 6 or more credits in the term will continue to be eligible for in-school deferment of loan payments on their federal student loans.

The Academic Calendar can provide information about important dates and deadlines, and be a helpful tool in planning a family vacation.

Tommie Shelf

The Tommie Food Shelf is a grocery giveaway that benefits students, staff, faculty, and community members. We partner with local non-profit community partners to bring two monthly grocery giveaways to campus. First Tuesday of every month, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Facilities & Design Center. Third Wednesday of every month, 3-5 p.m., in Terrence Murphy Hall, 252. Remind your student of this resource to stretch their food budget.

Health Services

The Center for Well-Being Health Services provides high-quality, patient-centered health care that promotes the health and well-being of the entire St. Thomas community. Students can schedule an appointment by calling or visiting myHealthPortal to schedule an appointment, upload insurance or access their medical records.

Counseling & Psychological Services

Counseling & Psychological Services offers a variety of counseling services to support student's emotional health, including individual counseling, group therapy, psychoeducational workshops, and crisis drop-in services. Students may schedule an initial appointment online or for more information, call the Center for Well-Being at (651) 962-6750.

Health Promotion, Resilience, & Violence Prevention

We provide opportunities for students to improve their health and well-being through education, prevention, intervention, and mind-body space. Encourage your student to engage in the programming offered this fall.
