Advanced Doctoral Practicum Program
The advanced practicum program offers three counselors-in-training the opportunity to provide individual personal counseling to undergraduate and graduate students in a university counseling center. Trainees see clients with a wide range of presenting concerns, giving them a depth and breadth of training in a center dedicated to serving students in a variety of ways on campus.

Program Details
Time Commitment
The advanced practicum program is structured for 20 hours per week; September – May.
Schedules are flexible depending on practicum students other time commitments. They are required to be here on Tuesdays from 8-11 am to meet for seminar and participate in all-staff case consultation.
Practicum students, in coordination with their supervisors and the Practicum Coordinator, determine the size of their individual caseloads, with the expectation of working to a caseload of 7-10 sessions per week.
Supervision
Practicum students are provided 2.5 hours of supervision per week. 1.5 hours of group supervision is provided by one of our licensed, doctoral level senior psychologists. 1 hour is provided by one of our Doctoral Interns, whose supervision is in turn supervised by the staff psychologists. Practicum students also participate in 2 hours of staff case consultation each week. In addition, there is a weekly practicum seminar offered, which focuses on applied clinical issues.
Client Population
Individual counseling is provided for undergraduate and graduate students of St. Thomas. Presenting issues cover a wide range of diagnostic and developmental issues.
Practicum students are not scheduled to do career or couples counseling. Opportunities for group counseling, including psych-educational and interpersonal process modalities, are dependent on the number of groups offered each term.
Requirements
Students must have completed a practicum position involving therapy experience prior to beginning an advanced practicum position at St. Thomas. Preference is given to advanced doctoral students, however, masters students with strong backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Students must have completed relevant coursework in counseling and be enrolled in a counseling-related doctoral academic program.

How to Apply
Applications will be accepted beginning on the universal release date, February 4th, 2024. Interviews will take place the week of February 12th, 2024. Please submit all materials electronically.
