J-Term VISION Trips

In this two- to three-week trip abroad, you'll have the possibility to explore the world and see issues of social justice beyond our context. Serve more intentional time and immerse yourself in the culture and the situations of the place you're serving.

J-Term 2024 Program Timeline:

  • Program Applications: October 26 to November 16, 2023

    • Applications are due Thursday, November 16, by 4 pm.
  • Application Decisions: Will be communicated to applicants, along with scholarship information, by November 27.

  • Participant Commitment:

    • A non-refundable $250 deposit is due by December 4.
  • Final Confirmation of Program Commitment:

    • Due by participants at the Large Group Orientation on Sunday, December 10.
  • Final Payment:

    • Due by January 4, 2024.
    • Participants will receive a program bill by December 1st. A $250 non-refundable deposit must be paid by December 4th, and/or the full program bill must be paid by January 4, 2024.
    • All Flights need to be confirmed by December 12th, 2024. Once flights are confirmed students students are responsible for the cost of VISION program if student cancellation is requested. All cancellations must be submitted in writing. The VISION program follows the Study Abroad Policy for Travel Risk Cancellations

Breaking the Cycle of Generational Poverty

Quito, Ecuador (Jan. 9-19, 2024)

VISION will partner with a Jesuit-founded local organization that empowers families in Quito to break the cycle of generational poverty. The Center - A Family of Families offers comprehensive educational, human rights, spiritual, and skills - trades-based programming, as well as health services.

VISION will engage with the Center's mission in action, participate in the community, work alongside families in need, and more. There will also be time to explore Quito, and experience Ecuadorian culture firsthand.

This VISION trip has a cost of $3,500.

We encourage all interested students to apply for the VISION program scholarships as part of the program application. Consideration may be given to applicants who exhibit substantial financial need as determined by the St. Thomas financial aid office.

Humanitarian Respite Center U.S. Mexico Border

U.S. Mexico Border-McAllen, TX (January 22-31, 2024)

VISION will partner with the Humanitarian Respite Center of Catholic Charities in McAllen, Texas. Focusing on the responding to the families in crisis focusing in those who are migrating or refugees to the United States.

This VISION trip has a cost of $2,250.

We encourage all interested students to apply for the VISION program scholarships as part of the program application. Consideration may be given to applicants who exhibit substantial financial need as determined by the St. Thomas financial aid office.

We never want money to be an obstacle to participation in a program. There are scholarships available that can cover a percentage of the total trip cost.
