Advanced Assessment Practicum

Overview

University of St. Thomas Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking doctoral-level psychology applicants for an advanced assessment practicum position. The assessment practicum offers training in neurocognitive and psychological assessment for concerns commonly seen in college counseling, including ADHD, PTSD, OCD, and learning and mood disorders.

    The 9-month Advanced Assessment Practicum runs from mid-August 2026 to mid-May 2027. Exact dates will be finalized in May 2026. Students are expected to be on-site for 20 hours per week, including Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for seminars and all-staff consultation meetings. The remaining days and hours are flexible, pending student availability and CAPS scheduling.

    The typical caseload for an Advanced Assessment Practicum student is 5–10 clients per academic semester. Students are expected to complete all phases of the assessment process for each client, including intake, testing, and feedback sessions, as well as completion of an integrated written report.

    Supervison

    The assessment practicum position includes:

    • One hour of individual supervision per week with a Licensed Psychologist (LP)
    • One hour of weekly group assessment consultation with Predoctoral Interns and Staff Psychologists,

    Practicum students have shared opportunities for didactic learning and case consultation with CAPS therapy advanced practicum trainees.

    Client Population

    Assessment services are provided for undergraduate and graduate students of St. Thomas. The most common presenting concerns relate to learning, attention, memory, and executive functioning difficulties, as well as anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and relationship concerns. Please note that though we often work with neurodivergent students who are looking to better understand their strengths and struggles, we do not offer formal Autism testing.

    Requirements

    1. Current enrollment in a PsyD or PhD program in clinical or counseling psychology 
    2. Completion of at least one year of therapy practicum experience, either at a Master’s or Doctoral level 
    3. Completion of at least one semester of doctoral-level coursework in psychological assessment and at least one integrated assessment report* 
    4. Familiarity with the administration, scoring, and or interpretation of aptitude, executive functioning, memory, personality, and/or psychological tests such as the WAIS-5, D-KEFS, WIAT-4, CVLT, RCFT, Millon Tests, and MMPI-3.* 

    *It is okay if your experience to date has only been via doctoral-level coursework.
