Irish Studies

Program Overview

Through this interdisciplinary minor, students will immerse themselves in the global perspective of Irish Studies. One of the youngest political countries (est. 1949), the Republic of Ireland remains critically involved with global perspectives from the U.K. to the U.N. and well beyond. A goal of the program is to move students beyond a simplified understanding of global events through a study of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland’s historic, political, economic, and literary traditions.

The Irish Studies minor offers courses from various disciplines that coincide with the mission of the Center for Irish Studies (Lárionad an Léinn Éireannaigh Irish Studies) and our many study-abroad programs. Students in the Irish Studies minor will avail themselves of four (4) four-credit courses that must include IRST 200: Introduction to Irish Studies. Eight credits must be at the 200-level or above.
