Credit Transfer Guidance for Current St. Thomas Students

Taking a Course at Another College or University

If you're a current University of St. Thomas student planning to take a course at another college or university, review transfer credit requirements before you enroll.

You can use the Transfer Credit Tool to find courses that St. Thomas has previously evaluated. However, finding an equivalent course in the tool does not guarantee that the credits will apply toward your degree as expected. Core curriculum limits, senior residency requirements and requirements for your major or minor may affect how transfer credits can be used.

Transfer Credit Requirements for Current Students

Before enrolling in a course at another college or university, review these requirements and any additional requirements for your academic program.

Minimum Grade Requirement

You must earn a final grade of C- or higher for St. Thomas to accept a course for transfer credit.

Core Curriculum Transfer Credit Limit

After you begin your studies at St. Thomas, you may apply a maximum of 8 additional transfer credits toward core curriculum requirements. No more than 4 transfer credits may be applied to a specific core requirement area.

Senior Residency Requirement

At least 32 of your final 36 credits must be completed at St. Thomas, at another ACTC college or through an affiliated program, such as a St. Thomas study abroad or exchange program.

Major and Minor Requirements

Your major or minor may have additional residency or transfer credit requirements. If you plan to use a transfer course toward a major or minor requirement, check with the appropriate academic program or department before enrolling.

What if a Course Isn't in the Transfer Credit Tool?

A course that isn't listed in the Transfer Credit Tool may still be eligible for transfer credit.

If you plan to use the course toward a core curriculum, major or minor requirement, get approval from the appropriate academic program or department before enrolling.

After You Complete Your Course

After completing coursework at another college or university, have an official academic transcript sent to the University of St. Thomas for evaluation. A final grade of C- or higher is required for transfer credit.
