About 97% of first-year students receive merit scholarships that bring the average tuition cost down to $21,000 per year.

Board of Trustees Academic Scholars

Amount: $1,000 - $3,000 per year

Eligibility:

  • Prospective freshmen who have been admitted to St. Thomas
  • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5
  • Composite ACT of at least 25 or SAT of at least 1210

Complete Application Review Begins: February 19, 2020

Additional applications will considered until Trustee's Scholarship funds are exhausted.

Dease Scholarship Program

Named in honor of St. Thomas’ 14th President, the Reverend Dennis Dease, who was committed to making a St. Thomas education accessible to students from all socio-economic backgrounds, the University of St. Thomas annually selects up to 10 well-qualified students to receive a full-tuition Dease Scholarship.

Amount: Full-tuition

Eligibility: 

  • Prospective freshmen who have been admitted to St. Thomas
  • Underrepresented domestic, first-generation students and/or graduates from urban high schools

Opus College of Business Scholarships

  • Amount: $10,000 per year

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have applied to St. Thomas
    • Intend to major in business
    • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5
    • Composite ACT of at least 26 or SAT of at least 1240

    Application: Eligible students must complete an application and be invited to attend the Fauth Business Scholarship Test Day held in late February. The four scholarship recipients will be notified in March.

    Deadline: January 3, 2020

    The GHR Fellows program is a highly competitive, transformational undergraduate experience for students pursuing careers in business. Fellows receive full-tuition scholarships to the University of St. Thomas and customized programming designed to deliver leadership experiences – including global exposure through a fully funded J-Term study abroad experience.

    Amount:  Full-tuition between St. Thomas and GHR funding

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have applied to St. Thomas
    • Intend to major in business
    • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.7, Composite ACT of at least 28 or SAT of at least 1310
    • Embody the mission and values of the University of St. Thomas
    • Model the values of GHR by demonstrating that you are ethical, innovative, globally aware and engaged in your community

    Application: Eligible students must complete an application by January 1 and be invited to attend the GHR Fellows Program Test Day held in late February. Scholarship recipients are notified in March. 

    Deadline: January 3, 2020

    These competitive scholarships are awarded by the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship to applicants with proven entrepreneurship potential who intend to major in Entrepreneurship. Multiple full-tuition scholarships will be awarded each year to qualified candidates.

    Amount: Full tuition between St. Thomas and Schulze funding

    Eligibility:

    • Prospective freshmen who have applied to St. Thomas
    • Intend to major in Entrepreneurship
    • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Composite ACT of at least 27 or SAT of at least 1280

    Application: Eligible students must complete an application by January 1 and be invited to attend the Schulze Innovation Program Test Day held in late February. Scholarship recipients are notified in March. 

    Deadline: January 3, 2020

    Amount: $2,000 for one year only

    Eligibility:

    • Intend to major in Entrepreneurship

    Fauth Business Scholarship

    Amount: $10,000 per year

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have applied to St. Thomas
    • Intend to major in business
    • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5
    • Composite ACT of at least 26 or SAT of at least 1240

    STEM Scholarships

    Board of Governors Scholarship

    St. Thomas will offer one $10,000 renewable Engineering Board of Governors Scholarship to incoming freshmen who:

    • Intend to major in Engineering
    • Have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5, or ACT of at least 24, or SAT of at least 1180

    Science, Mathematics, & Engineering Scholarships

    Two full tuition scholarships and two $8,000/year scholarships for incoming freshmen who:

    • Intend to major in a science, mathematics and/or engineering field
    • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5, and composite ACT of at least 27 or SAT of at least 1280

    ThreeSixty Journalism Scholarship

    The ThreeSixty Journalism Program helps diverse Minnesota youth tell the stories of their lives and communities through strong writing and reporting. The University of St. Thomas awards one full-tuition scholarship each year to an eligible ThreeSixty participant.

    Amount: Full tuition

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have been admitted to St. Thomas
    • Completed a ThreeSixty Journalism summer camp
    • Intend to major in Communication and Journalism

    Deadline: March 5, 2020

    Scholarship Details

    Whalen Scholarship for Communication and Journalism

    Named in honor of Father James Whalen, long-time faculty member and department chair who specialized in Media Ethics, this scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated aptitude for communication and commitment to community service and career-related activities.

    Amount: $2,000 per year

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have been admitted to St. Thomas
    • Intend to major in Communication and Journalism

    Deadline: March 5, 2020

    Scholarship Details

    Music Major Scholarships

    Amount: $1,000 - $8,500 per year

    Eligibility: Students considering majors in music, music performance, music education or music business

    • If selected, perform at the on-campus scholarship invitational in early March.

    Habiger Institute Latino Scholars Scholarship

    Amount: $2,000 per year

    Eligibility: 

    • Prospective freshmen who have been admitted to St. Thomas
    • Involved in parish and Latino community
    • Intend to major or minor in Catholic Studies

    Scholarship Details

  • Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program
  • Minnesota Public Safety Officers
  • Tribal Scholarship Funds
  • Amount: Up to $4,000 per year

    Eligibility: 

    • Possess one-fourth or more Indian ancestry
    • Minnesota resident
    • Member of a federally recognized Indian tribe

    Amount: Annual amount determined by law

    Eligibility: Dependent children and the surviving spouse of a Minnesota public safety officer killed in the line of duty

    Application: 

    • Download the application from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
    • Obtain a certificate of eligibility from the Minnesota Commissioner of Public Safety.
    • Submit the completed application to the St. Thomas Undergraduate Financial Aid Office.

    Students of Indian ancestry are encouraged to contact their tribal education office to learn of any tribal funds that may be available to assist with educational expenses.
