Innovation & Technology Services is the backbone of St. Thomas. We support the day-to-day work and ongoing digital evolution of the university. Working as cross-functional teams, we collaborate and cross-pollinate to solve technology challenges for our community.

Our employees are support technicians, instructional designers, data scientists, network engineers, cloud architects, software engineers, project managers, database developers, videographers, and CRM marketing automation specialists (among many others). We are also musicians, writers, runners, dancers, actors, trivia pros and all-around curious people.

We are leaders in higher education technology and innovation. We have been recognized by Gartner, EDUCAUSE, Salesforce, and others for our contributions in instructional design, data analytics, software development, cloud architecture, design-thinking practices for IT and more.

Annual ITS Award Winners

2023 ITS Innovation Award

Jo Montie (Manager of Digital Learning Success) has been the force behind the growing digital accessibility initiatives at St. Thomas – from the Digital Accessibility badges to the Digital Accessibility Service Team (DAST). This new team, comprised of staff from ITS and beyond, develops services and knowledge base articles, provides consultations and training, promotes a culture of accessibility, and reviews tools for accessibility. Jo’s passion for this work inspires others to join her in creating a more inclusive campus.

2023 ITS Leadership Award

Farrah Friedrich's (Director of Enterprise CRM) leadership in the Salesforce ERx to EDA migration was monumental. She wore three hats: director, product owner and lead developer. Through these roles, she collaborated with our partners to ensure that the systems, flows and integrations met their needs and advanced university strategy. St. Thomas would be lost without her leadership over the past year.

2023 ITS Unsung Hero Award

Eric Larson (Instructional Technology Consultant) goes above and beyond in his work at St. Thomas - often without others knowing. As the Canvas administrator and leader of the course evaluation system, he proactively addresses challenges and provides personalized support for our faculty and students. And no matter how busy things are, he is always there for his colleagues.

2023 ITS Most Valuable Team Award

The Salesforce EDA migration is among the most complex technology projects in recent years and brings significant improvements to enrollment, retention, giving, and more. The cross-functional implementation team showed incredible dedication, to each other and to the project, while overcoming countless challenges from shifting deadlines and competing priorities to budget constraints. This project will benefit the entire St. Thomas community for years to come.

2023 ITS Outstanding Student Employee Award

Jonathan Barnes (Service Desk Student Employee) knows all things Tech Desk and constantly looks for improvements and streamlining opportunities. He is always working on a self-driven project in addition to creating student training articles, digital signage, and overhauling our Tech Desk Tools software.
