Sustainability Strategic Plan

Sustainability is central to the University of St. Thomas’ mission of educating morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good. The Sustainability Strategic Plan presents a vision, goals and concrete action steps the university will pursue over the next five years to advance our commitment to sustainability.

It is the result of 18 months of assessment, community engagement and work group discussions. Nearly 1,500 individuals engaged in the planning process through class projects, a community visioning brainstorm, a strategic plan workshop and nine work groups. The plan centers on the following university-wide vision and goals:

By catalyzing university-wide engagement, we will create a culture that prepares students to be sustainability leaders during their university years and beyond.

  • Achieve a STARS Gold rating by 2025
  • Achieve carbon neutrality by 2035

The Sustainability Strategic Plan describes how the university will achieve those goals through nine focus areas: mission, academics, student engagement, employee engagement, dining services, facilities management, transportation, procurement, and investment.
