10 Fun and Easy Social Events

  • Progressive Dinner - Courses of a meal are at each house on the block and the entire population of the block goes from house to house until the meal is finished, soup at one house, salad at another, then the main course at another, and so on.
  • Fun Kids Events - Work with other neighbors on your block to plan a block-wide scavenger hunt, mini-parade, mini-theater productions, or neighborhood talent show.
  • Share favorite holiday recipes or traditions - Have a volunteer type them up and make copies for all. Great to share with a holiday cookie exchange!
  • Take a stroll down memory lane - Walk along the river or around the block.  Have a long-time resident narrate the history of the area and share pictures and memories.
  • Any outdoor sport (softball, volleyball, basketball, bocce ball) – Get your neighbors together for some fun outside.
  • Potluck dinner  -  Ask folks to bring their specialty – don’t forget to ask folks to bring recipes to share!·        
  • Ice cream social - Ask neighbors to bring their own toppings to share for an extra treat.
  • BBQ – Firing up the grill? Ask neighbors to bring veggies, meat or beverages to share.
  • Gardening/Beautification/Plant or vegetable exchange – Admiring your neighbor’s hostas or raspberry bush? Set-up a block plant exchange to green the neighborhood.
  • Form a book club – Take turns hosting or meet up at a local coffee shop. This is a great way to connect folks across generations!
