According to Wikipedia, Personal branding is the conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating themselves from the competition, to ultimately advance their career, increase their circle of influence and have a larger impact.

Think of some of your favorite brands. Maybe it's food, stores, clothing brands... what do you like about them? Do they have an interesting logo? Does the food taste really good or remind you of home? Do you love the clothes because they're comfortable? Not everything about a brand is visible - sometimes it's about how something makes you feel or the memories it evokes.

    Stand Out

When a brand resonates with us, we're most likely to think of that thing when we need something. Need some new shoes? If you love Nike, that's likely where you'll look first. Hungry? You'll likely gravitate toward your favorite restaurant.

To put it simply, people have brand recognition just like our favorite retailers do! The actions we take, the expertise we have, the work that we do, and so much more will alter the way we're perceived by others. Ultimately, you need to ask yourself "What do I want to be known for?" and tell it to the world! With a clear personal brand, you can build your network, career, experience, and more.

    Personalize It

As an international student, you have many unique attributes. A global mindset, language skills, flexibility/adaptability, cultural knowledge, loyalty, and work ethic are among a few big-picture things. As individuals, you have unique knowledge, interests, expertise, and other skills that tell your story. No two people are the same!
