“University of Phoenix to open Twin Cities campus,” Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, May 14, 2004. “Its entrance is expected to create more competition for other local institutions that cater to adult learners, such as the University of St. Thomas, Metropolitan State University, Argosy University and the Minnesota School of Business and Globe College. Christopher Puto, dean of the University of St. Thomas' College of Business, said the University of Phoenix is known for choosing good locations. ‘My guess is they think they are going to catch people on the way home,’ Puto said. “Colleges balance distance learning with class time,” Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, May 14, 2004. “The University of St. Thomas College of Business in Minneapolis offers a hybrid program for its MBA in medical group management. Students spend a week on campus at the beginning of each semester, then return home and begin online conferences for two of their four classes. Halfway through the semester, they switch to the next two courses. ‘This is executive-level education and our students are busy, working professionals,’ said Alice Nulsen, program manager for the St. Thomas program. ‘They obviously would not be able to do this kind of program without the flexibility that the distance-learning component offers them.’” https://twincities.bizjournals.com/twincities/stories/2004/05/10/focus2.html

“Area update,” St. Paul Pioneer Press, May 29, 2004. The sports column includes, “Division III track: St. Thomas' Joe Thomas repeated as an All-American with a fourth-place leap of 6 feet, 9 inches in the high jump on the second day of the NCAA Division III track and field championships in Decatur, Ill. Thomas' effort gave the Tommies men, tied for 26th place, their only five points in the meet. Wisconsin-La Crosse led with 34 points, while Wisconsin-Whitewater was second with 22. Wisconsin-La Crosse won the meet with 101 points; Nebraska Wesleyan had 30 to place second. The St. Thomas women finished in 13th place with 21 points.
