Interests and Expertise:

  • Systems analysis, simulation, and design.
  • Helping engineering students make the transition from classroom learning to professional career.
  • Robotics, guidance and control, sensor fusion, design of controlled experiments that give valid results.

Career Highlights:

Mr. Jeff Hammer had a long career at Honeywell in the Systems and Research Center, and later in Aliant Tech (a spin-off of Honeywell). He was an Engineering Fellow at both Honeywell and Aliant Tech. About half of his career was in energy conservation, solar energy system feasibility research, and energy conserving control systems for industrial boilers, commercial buildings, and homes.

Jeff spent the other half of his career in the Aerospace and Defense industry. During the cold war he worked on undersea naval weapons intended to deter soviet forces.

Mr. Hammer was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota, Aerospace Engineering department where he taught control theory and senior design. He served as faculty advisor for the U of M solar car team for two design, build, and race cycles (for about 4 years).

Jeff now enjoys his job as an adjunct faculty at the University of St. Thomas where he teaches senior design class for the School of Engineering.
