Career Highlights

Farida Kasumzade is an adjunct instructor at the University of St. Thomas, School of Engineering. Farida is also the founder of Max Consulting Firm, LLC where she consults clients on different aspects of material selection, processing, and testing.

Ms. Kasumzade retired from Medtronic with more than 10 years of industry experience in biomaterials and development of medical devices. At Medtronic, Farida worked as a Sr. Scientist and metallurgical lab manager. During her career with Medtronic, Farida participated in a multiple product launches and was exposed to a variety of materials used in medical devices.

Prior to Medtronic, Farida worked as a Plant Metallurgist at Progress Casting Group for almost a decade. Her customers included Boeing, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and many other companies that required high integrity and quality aluminum castings.

Farida immigrated to USA from Baku, Azerbaijan, where she was a tenured Professor in the Metallurgical Department of Azeri Technical University. She enjoys working with students.  Over the last 20 years, she managed many student- interns and provided mentorship to young professionals in the material science field.

She is currently a Board Member of the Minnesota Chapter of ASM International and has previously served as its past chair.
