The opportunity gap in education is a pressing challenge we’re working hard to address. For over 20 years, the University of St. Thomas has provided tutors, mentors, and awareness programs to offer immediate support for students and close the opportunity gap in our communities.
Our tutor-mentor program builds meaningful connections between K-12 students and St. Thomas volunteers to provide consistent support and ongoing learning opportunities.
St. Thomas’ tutor-mentor volunteers commit to volunteering for at least one semester for a minimum of one hour each week. Tommies Together Volunteer Center covers the cost of transportation or provides carpooling opportunities to all preapproved Tutor-Mentor volunteers.
Opportunities are available Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Most volunteer shifts are 1 hour, but longer opportunities are available.
Early College Awareness
We believe all students should have access to pursue a college education. Through Early College Awareness, we arrange on-campus tours for middle school students to meet St. Thomas students and learn about the value of postsecondary education.
The Early College Awareness program runs from February to May on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The program is run completely by University of St. Thomas student volunteers. Space is limited so please inquire early.
