UST was well represented at Minnesota College Personnel Association Conference

The 2005 Annual Minnesota College Personnel Association Conference was held Oct. 27-28 at the College of St. Catherine .

Here are University of St. Thomas highlights from the conference:

  1. Karen Lange, dean of students, received the Linda Schrempp Alberg Outstanding Contribution to Minnesota Higher Education Award. The award honors a professional whose work with students and service at one of Minnesota ’s institutions of higher education sets an example for all student development professionals. This award recognizes a practicing student affairs professional or a professional retired from a Minnesota institution of higher education.
  1. Amy Graff, Katie Olson, Onar Primitivo, McKenna Schumacher and Jessica Webb served on the 2005 Conference Planning Committee.
  1. The following UST staff and faculty presented at this year’s conference:
    • Jane Canney, vice president for student affairs, presented the session “Develop your Blueprint to Become a Senior Student Affairs Officer,” and a pre-conference workshop titled “Involved Parents: Partners in Student Development.”
    • Kate Boyle, assistant professor, Department of Leadership, Policy and Administration, presented two sessions: “Maintaining our Theoretical Foundation in Student Affairs” and “But I’m Too Busy to Read! Is it Possible to Balance Being a Student Affairs Practitioner and Staying Current in Our Field?”
    • Brian Dusbiber, director of the Life-Work Center, presented the session “Priming the Pump: Identifying and Getting Outside Funding for Your Campus Initiatives.”
    • Lisa Mueller, assistant director of Multicultural Student Services, and Fnan Araia, graduate student hall director, presented the session “Interpreting the Blueprints and Selecting A Site: A Graduate Students Guide to Navigating the Job Search Process in Higher Education.”
    • Tori Svoboda, associate dean of students, and McKenna Schumacher, graduate student, presented a session on “Trading Spaces: When Non-Traditional Students Become the Majority at Traditional Institutions.”
  1. The following UST staff served on the board of the Minnesota College Personnel Association: Mueller, president; Schumacher, graduate student liaison; Colleen Stephens (Box Office and Expeditions), newsletter editor; and Svoboda, technology chair.
