UST Concert Choir celebrates Mozart


UST Concert Choir celebrates Mozart’s 250th birthday, bands premiere work by Brazilian composer, students present many recitals

The University of St. Thomas Music Department welcomes the public to the free music performances listed below.  All will be held on the university’s St. Paul campus unless listed otherwise.

  • 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student recital.
  • 8:15 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: In honor of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the St. Thomas Concert Choir presents Mozart’s “Mass in C minor, KV 427.” Dr. Angela Broeker conducts the choir; Robert Vickery is accompanist, with other Twin Cities orchestral musicians. Vocal soloists include St. Thomas faculty members Krystal Banfield, soprano; Debra Kotulski, soprano; Robert Strusinski, tenor; and Alan Bryan, bass.
  • 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in St. Mary’s Chapel at the St. Paul Seminary, 2260 Summit Ave.: Student Caroline Becker presents a trumpet recital.
  • 8 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Sarah Ludwig presents a voice recital.
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in O’Shaughnessy Auditorium at the College of St. Catherine, 2004 Randolph Ave.: The UST Bands present a concert featuring the world premiere of “Brasileirismos” by Brazilian composer Hudson Nogueira and the 50th anniversary of “Symphony for Band” by Vincent Persichetti. Music by Ticheli, Hanson, Chance and Whitacre also will be performed. Dr. Douglas Orzolek conducts the Symphonic Band, and Dr. Matthew George conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Women’s Choir presents a spring concert.
  • 6 p.m. Monday, May 8, in the O’Shaughnessy Room of O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center: “Guitar in the Library” concert.
  • 8 p.m. Monday, May 8, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: St. Thomas’ Jazz Combo and String Ensemble present a spring concert.
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: St. Thomas’ Jazz Singers and Instrumental Jazz Ensemble present a concert.
  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: St. Thomas’ Guitar Ensemble presents a concert.
  • 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in St. Mary’s Chapel at the St. Paul Seminary, 2260 Summit Ave.: Student Molly Shields gives a voice recital.
  • 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Concert Choir gives its “arrivederci” concert, singing the program it will perform during its upcoming Italian tour. Dr. Angela Broeker directs; Robert Vickery is accompanist.
  • 8 p.m. Monday, May 15, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student clarinetists Leslee Aune and Jessica Gordon present a recital.
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Samuel Johnson gives a voice recital.
  • 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Korey Connor gives a guitar recital.
