The Luann Dummer Center for Women invites the campus community to its next book club session on Wednesday, March 28.

The club will discuss Tropic of Orange, by Karen Tei Yamashita, from noon to 1 p.m. in the women’s center, Room 103, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center.

The book’s satirical, semifantastical novel features Emi, an Asian-American television news executive, and Gabriel, a Latino newspaper reporter. The two professionals are so focused on chasing stories that they almost don’t notice that the world is falling apart around them. Yamashita’s staccato prose works well to evoke the frenetic breeziness and monumental self-absorption that are central to her characters’ lives.

Everyone is invited; bring a lunch and beverage. Those who have not finished or started the book are still welcome to join the conversation.
