Registration will begin at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast and networking. The presentation and discussion will be held from 7:45 to 9 a.m. in Room 202, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus.

Strategic planning defines how an organization intends to remain a relevant and viable contributor to a community. The quality of any solution is limited by the array of options created, evaluated and eventually selected. The upstream framing of the problem shapes an organization’s orientation and creative direction.

Prior to his role as president of Patterson HCA, a marketing strategy and business development consulting firm in the health and wellness industry, Patterson was vice president of marketing for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and also had P and L responsibility for the $3 billion local commercial business.

Before joining Blue Cross, Patterson had worked in leadership positions at United Health Group, Express Scripts and SmithKline Beecham. He created a formulary management and rebate system that contributed to significant growth at Diversified Pharmaceutical Services, and the system subsequently was used by Express Scripts.

While at SmithKline Beecham he headed the vaccine, cardiovascular and anti-arthritic business units. In 1992, he was responsible for introducing Relafen and was recognized with a Diana Award for the “best” product launch in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1993, he was successful in establishing Engerix-B as the top-selling hepatitis B vaccine in the United States.

 Cost of the breakfast presentation:

  • $25 – students and members
  • $35 – standard prepaid guests
  • $40 – guest rate at the door
