STAR hosts several events this week

STAR announces this week's events:

Tuesday, Feb. 3:

Chinese Spring Festival Celebration: Celebrate the Year of the Ox at the Chinese Spring Festival Celebration tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 3. The night includes the Dragon Dance, a Chinese dance performance, and opportunities to decorate lanterns and eat traditional desserts. The festival will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Scooter's. Don't miss out on this Lunar Calendar celebration.

Wednesday, Feb. 4:

  • Free sledding: Come join in winter fun: Go sledding Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Battle Creek Recreation Center. Forty spots are available; sign up in the Box Office. All participants will have a free sled to use. Meet at the arches at 6:15 p.m.; the bus will return by 9 p.m.
  • UST Women's Basketball game: Fanamaniacs invite all Tommies to cheer for the UST Women's Basketball Team as it takes on St. Kate's Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Schoenecker Arena. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Bring UST ID. Fanamaniac giveaways will be handed out before the game while supplies last.

Saturday, Feb. 7:

  • Ice skating: Skate in indoor comfort Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Depot in the historic downtown Minneapolis train shed, a setting that features glass walls from floor to ceiling. Skates will be provided compliments of STAR. The bus departs at 12:45 p.m. from the arches and returns at 4 p.m. Sign up at the Box Office today. Visit the Depot Web site for more information.

Upcoming event Thursday, Feb. 26, to help provide shoes for needy kids:

Style a pair of TOMS shoes at 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Koch Commons Fireside Room, Room 113. Sign-up starts today, Feb. 2, at the Box Office. For every pair bought and decorated for themselves, students will have the satisfaction of knowing that another pair is donated to a child in need. Cost is $10. Decorating supplies such as fabric, paint and sharpies will be provided at the event. Since its beginning in May 2006 through 2007, TOMS gave more than 10,000 pairs of shoes to children in Argentina and 50,000 pairs in South Africa with a goal of more than 200,000 in 2008, through the purchases of its caring customers.
