Campus Volunteers Ready to Roll in Annual Fall Mississippi River Bank Cleanup Campaign St. Thomas Newsroom October 5, 2011 As a fitting end to the celebration of Sustainability Week, the St. Thomas Green Team and USG Sustainability Committee are sponsoring the annual fall cleanup of the east bank of the Mississippi River from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.The University of St. Thomas, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, takes responsibility for cleaning the east river bank from the Marshall-Lake Street bridge to the Ford Parkway bridge.Whether it’s a celebration of the Mississippi River, a great family outing, a community service project, or just to enjoy the beauty of the river colors and being outdoors, participate by meeting at the World War I monument at the intersection of Summit Avenue and East Mississippi River Boulevard – rain or shine. All ages are invited. Look for the pop-up canopy and banners.Bring gloves, rakes, good shoes and enthusiasm. Bags and gloves will be provided for those who need them. Coffee and food treats will be available.The cleanup also provides an opportunity for UST clubs looking for volunteer hours this semester.
