Japanese drumming group, Mu Daiko, to perform tomorrow

Celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander Month with a performance by Mu Performing Arts’ Mu Daiko, a Japanese drumming group, at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the auditorium, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. The performance is free to the UST community; light refreshments will follow.

Mu Daiko performs Japanese taiko drumming, which has origins in the earliest Japanese communities where it was part of daily life and rituals. In North America today, taiko has become a dynamic performance art of musical drumming based on traditional Japanese styles and techniques. It’s loud, strenuous, pulsating and adrenaline-packed.

Based in Minneapolis , Mu Performing Arts calls itself the Midwest ’s foremost pan-Asian performing arts organization. In addition to Mu Daiko, it is home to Theater Mu, an Asian-American theater company.

The performance is co-sponsored by Multicultural Student Services, St. Thomas Activities and Recreation (STAR) and Hana.
