Faculty and staff: Online volunteer registration begins June 26 for UST booth at the State Fair

From University Relations

Yes, the smells of State Fair corn dogs and pickles on sticks are just around the corner. Last year nearly 200 volunteers worked at the award-winning St. Thomas booth.

We’re grateful for all of the help because, thanks to the purple bags that were the talk of the Fair, the St. Thomas booth was easily the busiest booth inside the Education Building. We were written up in the local newspapers and featured on the TV news, all of which added up to great publicity for the university. Bags are still being spotted about town on a regular basis!

Aside from handing out the giveaways, volunteers spoke to potential students, reminisced with alumni and greeted other Minnesota State Fair goers. They also had a chance to meet others who work at UST and share knowledge and pride in the university.

This year, there will be a revival of last year’s red-hot giveaway bags. For those of you who volunteered last year, rest assured the infamous “tissue issue” will not make a repeat appearance. Bags will arrive at the booth already de-tissued so that volunteers can still enjoy handing them out to fairgoers without dealing with the tissue paper mess.

Volunteering at the State Fair is a way to be part of the UST community; all volunteers will receive a free entry ticket and a free T-shirt.

The fair dates are Thursday, Aug. 24, through Monday, Sept. 4. Online registration begins Monday, June 26, so check out your Bulletin Today for a link to the registration site.
