Deadline extended to Dec. 3 for staff recognition award nominations

It's almost Thanksgiving – a perfect time to consider those who deserve our special gratitude for extraordinary contributions to our St. Thomas community.

We've extended the deadline to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, to nominate staff members for two new staff recognition awards: the Lifelong Learner Award and the Distinguished Citizen Award. If you've not already done so, please consider taking some time over the coming Thanksgiving holiday to nominate the many worthy employees in our community.

You might know one or more staff members who used their vacation or paid leave time to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Others might have worked tirelessly to help victims and families of those affected by the I-35 bridge collapse.  Still others are regular volunteers with programs that help homeless and elderly people or children. Then there might have been those who dedicated their lives to developing new skills and acquiring new knowledge through continuing education. All of these examples would meet criteria for one of these awards, and I'm sure you can think of many more.

Selection committee members include members include: Nora Fitzpatrick  (School of Law), Barb Dunker (Administration), Dan Vevang (School of Education), Karen Lange (Student Affairs), and me. Please see the Oct. 23 Bulletin Today for an announcement of the new awards and links to award criteria, details and nomination form.

We'll look forward to reviewing dozens of nominations soon! In the meantime, I extend an early "happy Thanksgiving" to you and your family.
