Is there such a thing as a soul mate? Can you make one? How can we act love, and not just feel love, in order to create a soul mate?
These and many other questions regarding the nature of soul-mate ideology will be explored by two members of the University of St. Thomas faculty, Dr. John Buri and Dr. Carol Bruess, in a talk at noon Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the O'Shaughnessy Room (the Leather Room) of the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center on the university's St. Paul campus.

Their talk, "You and Your Soul Mate: Made in Heaven? Or Made on Earth?" is free and open to all. If you have one, bring your soul mate.
Buri and Bruess, who have written books on the topics of love and marriage, will talk about the origin of soul-mate ideology, its romantic appeal and some of its negative consequences.
Bruess, of the Communication and Journalism Department, is co-author (with 2005 St. Thomas grad Anna Kudak) of What Happy Couples Do. Published by Fairview Press a year ago, the book enjoyed a flurry of regional and national media attention.
Dr. John Buri
A longtime psychology professor and someone who’s still married to his first wife more than 35 years after the wedding, Buri knows a thing or two about marriage. He’s shared much of it in How to Love Your Wife (Tate Publishing & Enterprises, 2006), an advice book for young men looking for love (and older guys trying to keep it alive).
