Consul General of Ireland to Visit Feb. 7

The Center for Irish Studies invites faculty, staff and students to a reception for Aidan Cronin, Consul General of Ireland in Chicago, on Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Department of Special Collections of O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library, Room LL09. The event will take place from 3 to 4 p.m.; light refreshments will be served.

Cronin is visiting Minnesota for the first time since taking up his post in Chicago last August. A native of Cork, Ireland, his previous diplomatic postings include Tehran, Canberra and Beijing, as well as positions with the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin. He was a member of the team that organized the visit of President Barack Obama to Ireland in May 2011, with lead responsibility for the president’s visit to his ancestral home in Moneygall, County Offaly.

Cronin will speak briefly at 3:30 p.m. He is especially interested in meeting students who may wish to study in Ireland.
