Congratulations!!

UST Actuarial Science students won the Travelers' Fifth Annual Actuarial Case Competition! There were 5 schools that participated in the competition in St. Paul: UST, U of MN Twin Cities, University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and Drake University.

Faculty

Please join us in welcoming our three new faculty members: Amy DeCelles, Thomas Höft and Thorsten Moenig.

Amy DeCelles earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota. She previously taught at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana.

Thomas Höft earned his Ph.D. in Applied and Industrial Mathematics from the University of Minnesota. He comes to UST from Tufts University in Medford, MA.

Thorsten Moenig holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Risk Management & Insurance. He joins the Actuarial Science program.

We are excited to have three new faculty and look forward to their contributions to the Math & Actuarial Science Department.

UST Math Featured at ICIAM 2011
During the summer, the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) convened in Vancouver, BC. Over 3,000 mathematicians attended this tri-annual conference. Among the many features of this year’s congress was the addition of ICIAM TV.  Videos of plenary lectures, interviews with delegates, and conference highlights were among the items broadcast at the convention center, at conference hotels, and on the ICIAM web site (www.iciam2011.com).  The web site also featured video vignettes of ten mathematics departments in North America and the United Kingdom. These departments were chosen because of the exciting work they are doing in applied mathematics. The Mathematics Department at the University of St. Thomas was one of the departments featured with a video. The film details several activities that are ongoing in the mathematics department and in particular, highlights work done by our students.
