A scholarship is financial aid most commonly given in recognition of academic achievement, special talents and/or contributions made to school, community and/or church.  Scholarships are a “gift” or money that doesn’t have to be repaid.  Scholarships come from many sources including (but not limited to) the institution and outside scholarship agencies, civic organizations, clubs, employers, etc.  Earning scholarship funding  is important because these dollars go directly to help the student pay his/her bill which reduces the amount the student pays out of pocket to go to college.
