A scholarship is financial aid most commonly given in recognition of academic achievement, special talents and/or contributions made to school, community and/or church.  Scholarships are a “gift” or money that doesn’t have to be repaid.  Scholarships come from many sources including (but not limited to) the institution and outside scholarship agencies, civic organizations, clubs, employers, etc.  Earning scholarship funding is important because these dollars directly reduce the amount a student must pay out of pocket to obtain a college degree.
