About Us

Our mission is to:

  • promote students' engagement in writing, reading, and critical analysis
  • support writers as they develop their abilities to respond to others, reflect, and express their own ideas concisely and thoughtfully
  • enable students to gain perspective, self-awareness, and confidence as learners and writers.

The staff of the Center for Writing -- undergraduate and graduate peer writing consultants, an ESL Specialist, and the Director -- provide free, one-on-one conferences with writers at the University of St. Thomas, including:

  • Undergraduate students in their first year at UST
  • Undergraduate students writing in core courses
  • Undergraduate students working on writing assignments for "writing intensive" and "writing in the disciplines" courses in the WAC program
  • Graduate students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences
  • ESL students developing their abilities to read and write in the English
  • Students and alumni writing personal statements
  • Faculty writing assignments for their students and working on their own scholarly writing (please contact the Director)

We also provide writing mentors to:

  • anyone who would like ongoing support for any period of time--a few weeks, months, or a semester
  • the refugee and immigrant populations in the community through the service learning component of our training course and our community-based consulting program
  • ENGL 110 courses in UST's Academic Development Program
