Message from the Director

Welcome to Women's Studies at the University of St. Thomas. Our faculty members are committed to offering a variety of approved courses to enrich our students’ understanding of Women's Studies as an academic discipline. We also offer special events and opportunities for students and faculty to build community, including informal gatherings and an annual Twin Cities Women's and Gender Studies Collaborative Student Conference.

I invite you to browse through the undergraduate catalog and check out the Women's Studies courses available at the University of St. Thomas and other area schools.  Most of our courses are offered in another discipline and approved for Women's Studies. For example, BIOL 106: Women, Medicine, and Biology is an approved Women's Studies course and can be used to fulfill a core curriculum requirement and a Women's Studies major or minor requirement. Our courses incorporate a range of teaching methods, from problem-based learning to service-learning. For example, THEO 431: Women in the Early Church, incorporates a service-learning experience to help students appreciate both the similarities and differences in the lives of ancient and modern women. Students volunteer either at the Jeremiah Program, which helps women and their children move out of poverty, or Women’s Advocates, which provides housing and support for women, and their children, who have experienced domestic violence. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the Women's Studies program. I would love to talk with you.
