When Discernment turns to Delay

August 20, 2015

Discernment is a natural part of growing and moving through the seasons of our lives. We have all experienced the nudge towards something new, or a feeling of discontent that urges us to seek out people and experiences that better align with who we are, who we are created to be.

We have also all felt the hesitation to respond to the invitation to change what is currently filling our life. As instructed by the Psalmist, there are times when we are most certainly called to “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!” Ps. 27:14.

However, discernment is a process meant to bring you to a moment when you are called to make a decision, to respond to your call and fulfill your role in transforming the world from within. You will be discerning and refining your response to God's call throughout your life at different times. What each of these will have in common is making a decision to step out in faith and fulfill your purpose.

This article on “perfect timing” is, timed perfectly; as we welcome a group of lay men and women, who have responded to the invitation to make a change in their lives to begin another year of formation for service to the Church and the world.
