Human & Animal Research Policies
Institutional Review Board
The mission of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of St. Thomas is to assist faculty, staff, and student researchers in meeting the highest ethical and professional standards for the use of human subjects in scientific research. Researchers intending to use human subjects in their research must obtain permission from the Institutional Review Board prior to undertaking their research.
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
Faculty whose research involves the use of animals (or who teach classes in which students use animals as part of their course work) must obtain approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee before starting their work. Faculty should consult with the chair of the Department of Biology to obtain information about this process.
