Master of Social Work

Social workers change the person, one family, one community at a time.

For over 25 years, the St. Catherine University - University of St. Thomas MSW program has focused exclusively on preparing graduates to become clinical social workers, the largest group of mental health service providers in the nation. The St. Kate's - St. Thomas MSW is ranked in the top third nationally and is recognized for developing graduates with the skills and competencies to confidently practice with individuals, families and small groups and to maximize their impact in the myriad settings in which clinical social workers are found.

Clinical social work is a rapidly expanding profession, with many areas of practice expected to grow by almost 20 percent in the next decade. Growing areas of clinical practice include:

•  Aging / Gerontology        •  Child / Family / School
•  Health Care                      •  Immigrant / Refugees
•  Military / Veterans            •  Mental Health & Substance Abuse

Maximize Your Options

Through the development of core competencies in clinical practice, our graduates are prepared to think
critically and diagnostically, to develop and implement clinical
interventions, to evaluate relevant client outcomes, and to integrate
macro social work perspectives in clinical work. Graduates are also prepared to deal with problems including mental illness, developmental disabilities, poverty, discrimination and oppression. All of our graduates are academically on-track toward clinical licensure, maximizing future career opportunities.

So whether you're focused on a specific type of clinical practice or want to explore the many different career options available to clinical social workers, the St. Kate's - St. Thomas MSW faculty has the expertise and commitment to student development to prepare you for success.
