Sondra Payne Elizondo, a Benson, Minn., native, is University of St. Thomas Humanitarian of the Year for her contributions to the betterment of the spiritual and material welfare of the less fortunate. She is co-founder and director of VIDA (Volunteers for Intercultural and Definitive Adventures), a nonprofit volunteer program which offers pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary college students the chance to work with local doctors in underserved areas of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
