Professor Emerita and IPC field instructor receives national recognition
The North American Network of Field Educators and Directors (NANFED) recognizes the outstanding work of our partners in field education, the field instructors who supervise students in the agency setting, through presentation of the Heart of Social Work Award.
Theresa McPartlin serves as a field instructor for both BSW and MSW students at the St. Thomas Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services and was nominated by Director of BSW Field Education, Carey Winkler. As Carey shares in her nomination letter, "Theresa has been a social worker for 39 years and has served as a field instructor for 29 of those years, inspiring and mentoring over 300 students. In fact, the only time in her professional career she did not serve as a field instructor was during her tenure as a full time assistant professor with the St. Catherine University-University of St. Thomas School of Social Work, during which time she taught field seminars and served as the director of BSW Field Education for 4 years."
The following comments were shared (among others) with Carey by another former student:
"Theresa has a gift for transforming how students see themselves, the people they serve, and their confidence in their ability to do social work" ... "Theresa McPartlin is a gift to social work education, and an inspiration. She is proof that the efforts of one person can truly make a difference."
Theresa will be presented this award at the CSWE APM Conference next month in Dallas, TX. If you are planning to be at APM please join us in celebrating Theresa at NANFED's Heart of Social Work Reception:
