DSW students Tara Anderson and Beth Young tapped as contributors to Curricular Guide for Substance Use in Social Work Practice

In April, Tara Anderson and Beth Young, students in DSW cohort 4, class of 2020, traveled to Washington, D.C., for a meeting of the CSWE/American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry national task force for the Curricular Guide for Substance Use in Social Work Practice.

The substance use guide will be part of the 2015 EPAS Curricular Guide Resource Series, which is a series of curricular guides that will describe the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes that comprise each of the nine social work competencies for specialized practice. The guide will also include curricular resources to help faculty teach each competency. The national task force is aimed at increasing competence in understanding substance use through the development of a guide to serve as a resource to help faculty conceptualize this specialized practice.

Tara is serving on the committee for Competency 1 and Beth is serving on the Competency 6 committee. THey have been actively working with their committees the last several months and will continue to work on their competencies until the guide is published later this year.
