DSW faculty news: Marrs Fuchsel and Whitebird receive tenure

Dr. Catherine Marrs Fuchsel - portraitCatherine Marrs Fuchsel, MSW, PhD, LCSW, LICSW, associate professor, will join the St. Thomas faculty in the 2019-20 academic year to continue her role as the Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) program director. Catherine joined the School of Social Work in 2009 as an assistant professor with St. Catherine University and became the DSW program director in 2017. Originally from Lima, Peru, Catherine has over 21 years of clinical social work practice experience working with the Latino population in different cities across the country and her research focuses on the prevention of interpersonal violence among the Latino population, specifically among immigrant Latina women. She is passionate about social work doctoral education and looks forward to working with current and future doctoral students and curriculum engagement with faculty as we continue to examine and strengthen the practice doctorate degree in social work locally and nationally.


Robin Whitebird, professor of social work, portraitRobin Whitebird, MSW, PhD, LISW, has been awarded tenure by the University of St. Thomas and has been promoted to professor. Whitebird joined the Doctorate in Social Work faculty in 2015. Her research interests focus on mental health, chronic disease, complementary therapies and improving health care for all. Prior to joining the School of Social Work on a full-time basis, Whitebird spent 15 years as a researcher investigator with the HealthPartners Institute.
