AEMP Scholar Receives On the Rise Award
MSW student and Area of Emphasis in Military Practice (AEMP) Scholar Lina Knox was one of 13 veterans to receive an On the Rise award on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This award is given to Minnesota veterans ages 40 and under for their service off the battlefield.
As reported by Eric Hagen at ABC Newspapers, “Knox served two consecutive 12-month deployments to Iraq as a member of the Minnesota National Guard between June 2008 and May 2010, but it is the work she has done since returning home that caught the eye of the Veterans’ Voices Awards review committee.
“Through her job at the U.S. Department of Affairs Vet Center in Brooklyn Park, Knox has served as chairperson of a group that works with veterans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. She is also part of a team organizing a diversity fair, and she offers support to the homeless.”
