Social Work Research Refresher Workshop

Initial priority will be given to advanced standing MSW students.

This non-credit offering is NOT intended to be a substitute for GRSW 580. However, GRSW 580 content will be covered in an abbreviated form. The workshop’s intent is to place advanced standing students on more equal footing with their colleagues who have just completed GRSW 580.

Part 1:
Morning – 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

• How to conduct a literature review
• How to use an academic index
• Parallels between research and practice
• Basic research steps
• Constructing hypotheses
• Sampling
• Levels of instrument
• Research and designs
• Data collection and analysis

Part 2:
Afternoon – 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• MSW research committees
• Institutional Review Board (IRB)
• Introduction to statistical analysis
• Hypotheses testing
• Findings and conclusions
• Descriptive and inferential data analysis
• Writing results for a research report
