The interdisciplinary minor in science, medicine, and society (SMDS) provides students with creative, critical, and constructive perspective on medicine, science, health and disease. Designed to provide flexibility and benefit students in a variety of majors, SMDS minor empowers students to better analyze, evaluate, and positively influence health care. SMDS minors can evaluate critically and thoughtfully the nature of health and disease, the nature and goals of science, medicine, and health care, and the needs of the marginalized and underserved in light of the common good and the dignity of the whole person.
