Mary Peter

Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management, Best Buy

Mary Peter is currently the Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management at Best Buy, Inc.  As a leader of the continual development of Best Buy's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, Mary is responsible for leadership innovation, governance and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate and monitor the company's enterprise risk management program.  She develops ERM tools and practices to analyze, report and manage strategic risk.  In collaboration with Best Buy’s Strategic Growth Office, Mary works to embed risk analysis into business processes.  She conducts annual risk assessments which are reported to the Board of Directors and Executive Management.  Mary’s work also ensures integration of the fraud strategy with risk based programs including safety, security, internal audit, fraud management, risk assessments and audit reviews.

Mary’s previous roles have been in the risk management field, including Director of Enterprise Risk Management at Eide Bailly LLP: Director, Risk Services at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP: and Director, Risk Management at Jacobs Management Corporation (Genmar Holdings, Inc.; Watkins, Inc.; FLW Tours, and other related businesses), and Account Manager, Risk Management Services at Wells Fargo Insurance Services.

Mary is a graduate of Minnesota School of Business.  She is the co-founder and participant in the Minneapolis/St. Paul ERM Roundtable, a leadership group extending the dialogue on enterprise risk and related topics with Twin Cities professionals.   She has mentored several students and colleagues in various risk management positions and responsibilities.

Mary is the recipient the Top Woman in Finance award and the Industry Leader, Top Woman in Business award.  She is an ERM author, speaker at national conferences, and a past member of the US Technical Advisory Committee for ISO 31000 Risk Management Standard.

A lifelong resident of the Twin Cities, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, particularly her new grandson.  She enjoys traveling to new places and meeting new people.
