Jessica A. Tjornehoj

Senior Compliance Specialist, Ethics and Culture, Medtronic

Jessica Tjornehoj joined Medtronic after a yearlong externship experience coordinated through the University of St. Thomas.  She transitioned into a full-time role and is currently a Senior Ethics & Culture Specialist within the corporate Office of Ethics & Compliance.  Jessica has been with Medtronic since 2014, and values the mission driven focus of the global company.  Her recent meeting with founder Earl Bakken fuels her passion for her role.   At Medtronic, Jessica sees herself as a risk leader by the work she does to connect the dots between Ethics & Compliance and other business, functions and regions.

Jessica keeps her ear to the ground, building partnerships within Medtronic designed to promote collaboration and an expanded view of risk that goes beyond her work in the compliance function. In leading the ethical culture program, Jessica regularly works with leaders across the company to implement programs, campaigns and communications designed to encourage employees to do the right thing, ask for help when they don’t know what to do in an ethical dilemma, and to speak up.  Jessica’s interest in the risk field stems from her educational background in ERM, professional background in legal and compliance roles, and her interest in pulling in information from around the company to improve the risk-based focus of the corporate compliance program.

Jessica Tjornehoj is a recent JD/MBA graduate from the University of St. Thomas where she was one of the first students to concentrate her studies in the area of Organizational Ethics & Compliance.  During her time at St. Thomas, Jessica studied Enterprise Risk Management under Peter Young.  Jessica also attended UST for her undergraduate studies where she focused on Business Leadership & Management and completed the London Business Semester.  She joins the Risk Leadership Initiative Advisory Board as an Alumni.  She is a Tommie through and through!

On a personal note, Jessica values her work, her alma mater, her family, friends and rescue dog Sadie.  She prioritizes health and balanced living, and you can find her teaching or practicing yoga and traveling the world in her spare time.  Jessica is passionate about giving back – she volunteers as a mentor for St. Thomas undergraduate and law students, and spends many Mondays with Wills for Heroes, supporting Minnesota’s police officers and first responders.  Jessica is interested in entrepreneurship and starting her second small business one day.
