Michael J. Garrison is the associate dean for Faculty and Scholarship in the Opus College of Business. As associate dean, he coordinated the college's successful effort to secure accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) in 2010.He joined the college in 2005 as a professor of business law and served as the chair of the Department of Ethics and Business Law from 2007-09.

Garrison has received numerous awards and honors for his teaching and research. Over the course of his academic career, he has developed and taught courses in international law, Internet law, cyber security, advanced commercial law, negotiation and dispute resolution. He continues to teach a course in the Full- time UST MBA program titled Ethical Leadership and Corporate Accountability, a strategy-level course in law and ethics team-taught with Kenneth Goodpaster, the Koch Endowed Chair in Business Ethics.

Garrison has an extensive record of publications, including scholarly journal articles, textbooks and teaching materials. He has four articles in the American Business Law Journal, the premier scholarly journal in the business law discipline, three of which received the prestigious Ralph Hoeber Award for research excellence. His current research focuses on non-compete agreements and trade secrets.

Garrison received a bachelor of science degree in economics from North Dakota State University in 1976 and a J.D. (with distinction) from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1979. Prior to joining the business school faculty at NDSU, he practiced law in Fargo, North Dakota, specializing in commercial litigation, a practice he continued on a part-time basis during his 20-year tenure at NDSU.
