Transportation Options

Due to the limited availability of parking at St. Thomas, and in consideration of the University's commitment to a sustainable campus, alternative methods of transportation are encouraged.

Metro Transit Bus System

St. Thomas is well connected to the surrounding metro area through multiple Metro Transit routes. Route information and trip planning assistance can be found at the Metro Transit website.

The University of St. Thomas subsidizes the cost of bus passes to offer them to faculty, staff and students at a discounted rate.

Employee Metropass

Full-time employees (.625 FTE or greater) who choose not to drive to campus and do not purchase a permit are eligible for the Employee Metropass program. Eligible employees can purchase a year-long Metropass with payroll deductions. This pass is valid for unlimited rides on all Metro Transit buses and the light rail system. Passes are non-transferable and must be returned if employment is terminated or falls below an FTE of .625. Use of the Metropass by anyone other than the purchaser is forbidden and will result in revocation of Metropass privileges. A lost or stolen Metropass will be replaced once during a 12-month period for $20; a second replacement during this period will cost $40. Refunds will not be issued for replacement passes if the original lost or stolen Metropass is recovered. Damaged passes will be replaced at no cost if the pass is returned along with a request for replacement. Metropasses are only available for sale at the St. Thomas Parking Services office. A valid St. Thomas ID is required to purchase a pass. Employees who purchase St. Thomas parking permits are not eligible for the MetroPass.

You must first register for the Metropass through Murphy Online, before picking up the pass at the Parking Services Office. Registration instructions »

Student College Pass

Undergraduate and graduate students registered for credits and who do not purchase a parking permit are eligible to purchase the Metro Transit C-Pass. The C-Pass is available for both the fall and spring semesters and for the summer. The C-Pass allows unlimited rides on Metro Transit buses and the light rail system. Passes are non-transferable and must be returned if the student withdraws from classes or the University. Use of the pass by anyone other than the purchaser is forbidden and will result in revocation of C-Pass privileges. A lost or stolen C-Pass can be replaced for $20; a second replacement will cost $40. Damaged passes will be replaced at no cost if the pass is returned along with a request for a replacement to Parking Services. C-Passes are only available for sale at the Parking Services Office. A valid St. Thomas identification card is required to purchase a pass.

HourCar: Car Sharing for the Twin Cities

HourCar offers the convenience of a car on campus, but none of the stress of dealing with parking, car maintenance or increasing gas prices. There are several convenient Hour Car locations near our campus; including one parked right on our campus in Lot K near Cleveland and Grand. There is also a car at the Minneapolis campus in the School of Law parking lot. You can use a car when you need one and use transit, a bicycle and your own two feet the rest of the time.

Hourly rates are as low as $8.50/hour and include gas, insurance, and maintenance. Plus, the cars have reserved on-campus parking, so you never have to worry about where to park when you return. With a fleet of cars throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul, you're covered when you leave campus. Learn more about the program and apply for membership at the HourCar website
