National Nutrition Month
Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? While the Wellness Center makes sure to get students involved in healthy eating practices year-round, the programs have been kicked up a notch for March!
The very first day of March was ushered in with a classic event: Grocery Trivia. Students were able to play an online trivia game about nutrition and all areas of wellness to win a free bag of Whole Foods groceries. If students missed it this time, they can attend next month on Wednesday, April 5.
The first full week of March included a Nutrition Question of the Day, Monday through Friday. If students went on the Wellness Center’s Facebook page and correctly answered a question about nutrition each day that week, they were entered into a raffle for some great prizes. The prizes given away included a Nutribullet, DAVIDS TEA mug, and a Zoodle Maker: all great prizes to help students make healthy treats on their own!
During this first week of March, the Wellness Center also partnered with the Residence Hall Association for a Make a Mason Jar Meal event. Students who attended were able to put the dry ingredients needed for a healthy soup recipe in a complementary mason jar. When they’re ready for a healthy and hearty meal, all they need to do is add water.
To keep students eating healthy during midterms season this month, the Wellness Center offered a Make Your Own Trail Mix event in the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Rotunda! Students were able to mix and match the available ingredients to stay energized during their study sessions.
The Wellness Center also works with BrightSide Produce each month to provide a free Fruit of the Month during Convo Hour. March’s fruit is mangoes, quite the popular item! April’s Fruit of the Month is pears, so students can drop by the ASC on April 6to grab a pear if they missed out on the mangoes. All members of the St. Thomas community can also head over to BrightSide’s website to sign up for their Buyer’s Club: fresh produce is delivered to campus each week for very reasonable prices!
Be sure to check out the Wellness Center website for our Upcoming Events. Even though National Nutrition Month ends March 31, the quest for a healthy campus continues year-round!
