First Ever Technology Mindfulness Week Offered by Tommies Unplugged

The first ever Technology Mindfulness Week, offered by Tommies Unplugged, will be held across campus February 21-24!

Tommies Unplugged is a new initiative on campus to help students become aware of their technology habits and how it affects their overall education and wellness. It was created from a study done by a current undergraduate student being supervised by three professors and a professional staff member. After providing resources on the Wellness Center website, it was time to create programming and get the information out to students on a wider scale!

This year’s Technology Mindfulness Week will kick off with a lecture by St. Thomas professor, Dr. Carol Bruess, Tuesday, February 21, from 12-1pm in Room 126, John Roach Center.  Dr. Bruess will speak about what the digital age is doing to us as humans, family members, friends, and communicators. 

Yoga is meant to alleviate mental and physical stress by combining movement and meditation in an effort to achieve peacefulness. Take a break from technology to center yourself and join us for an hour in the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library on Tuesday, February 21 from 7:30-8:30pm.  Pre-registration is required.  Spots are limited, and those registered and in attendance will be entered into a drawing to win a free yoga mat!

Thursday, February 23 is the Tech Free Challenge Day. Besides what is required for work or homework, the St. Thomas community is encouraged to stay away from technology. Instead, participants can attend fun events, like a special Thursday Night Live Unplugged sponsored by STAR. 

Friday, February 24 will give students a chance to blog about their Tech Free Challenge Day from Thursday (more information to follow), as well as attend a special Friday Night Unwind Unplugged with STAR.
