Environmental (In)justice in Mni Sóta Maḳoce (Minnesota)

February 8, 2022

Environmental (In)justice in Mni Sóta Maḳoce (Minnesota) opens today - share your story!

Environmental (In)justice in Mni Sóta Maḳoce is a storytelling contest created in partnership with the Saint Paul Almanac and the University of St. Thomas Sustainable Communities Partnership (SCP) that seeks to highlight and uplift voices from communities across Mni Sóta Maḳoce (Minnesota) who have been affected by climate change and environmental injustice.

We are seeking narratives that speak to the harsh realities of environmental injustice as well as ones that imagine an environmentally just future.

Our main goal is to honor as many voices and forms of storytelling as possible. As such, we are open to many formats and genres, including fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and audio and visual formats.  Judging the contest are creative writers and photographers Brad Hagen and Said Shaiye.  This storytelling contest is open until April 1, 2022.

Interested but don't know where to start?   If you've never done anything like this before, or have but would like inspiration to share your story in a way that resonates with you most, Brad Hagen and Said Shaiye have developed storytelling guides to inspire and guide you through this process.
