Sustainability Week 2022 Calendar of Events

Events Taking Place All Week

OSF Library Interactive Display on Sustainability & St. Thomas

Everyday of Sustainability Week starting on Tuesday 1pm Students in the “Theology and the Environment” class are asking community members for feedback that they can include in a report that they are writing for the Office for Sustainability Initiatives about the University's participation in the Laudato Si Action Platform. Their questions include: What do you think the biggest environmental issues are?  What do you personally do for sustainability? What do you know about the St. Thomas sustainability strategic plan? What could St. Thomas do better?

Mississippi River Stories Virtual Exhibit, OSF Library Rotunda

Look for the Sustainable Communities Partnership Exhibit Touchscreen to view the Mississippi River Stories Virtual Exhibit!  Mississippi River Stories explores our diverse experiences of the Mississippi River through the translation of research into art. The exhibit features a collection of work by sixteen artists, each piece inspired by river stories collected by Society and Sustainability (ENVR 212, Fall 2019) students in collaboration with the St. Thomas Sustainable Communities Partnership, the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, and the Natural Heritage Project. Learn more about the project and the exhibit open house on April 23, 1-3pm!

Library Documentary Screenings

April 19th-24th, First documentary 9am-1pm; Second documentary 1pm-6pm

The Music & Media Collections of the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library (OSF) contains several excellent films on sustainability.  During Sustainability Week they will be screening the following two documentaries each day in the OSF Library first floor by the rotunda.

Ice on Fire(2019): An eye-opening documentary that focuses on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis, Ice on Fire goes beyond the current climate change narrative and offers hope that we can actually stave off the worst effects of global warming.

Point of No Return(2020): The documentary takes viewers behind the headlines of the first solar-powered flight around the world, where two courageous pilots take turns battling nature, their own crew, and sometimes logic itself, to achieve the impossible. Not just to make history, but to inspire a revolution. “At the cutting edge of exploration and renewable energy.' Al Gore, Former US Vice President, Founder, The Climate Reality Project”.

Additionally, the OSF Library will have a special collection of books focused in sustainability available for students to engage with in the rotunda on the first floor throughout sustainability week.
