TommieMedia Students Earn Seven First-Place Honors

TommieMedia, St. Thomas’ student-run news organization, won seven first-place awards in two regional competitions in mid-April at the 2015 Midwest Journalism Conference. The Society of Professional Journalists named TommieMedia the Best Independent Online Student Publication, and the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association awarded the organization first place for Websites Student Market Television.

TommieMedia also won Mark of Excellence honors from SPJ for Best Use of Multimedia  Heidi Enninga, Briggs LaSavage and Morgan Neu; Online Feature Reporting  Briggs LeSavage; and Online Sports Reporting  Jacob Sevening and Eric Wuebben. The students were finalists in the following categories: Best Use of Multimedia, Online In-Depth Reporting and Online Sports Reporting.

In the MBJA contest, TommieMedia also won the following Eric Sevareid Awards: General Reporting Student Market Television  Heidi Enninga, Briggs LaSavage and Morgan Neu; Sports Reporting Student Market Division Jesse Krull.

TommieMedia continues to be the only student-run news source on the St. Thomas campus. It gives students real-world experience in advertising, promotion and news.
