Public Safety Alert: Robbery in Minneapolis Skyway

Public Safety would like to alert the University of St. Thomas community of a robbery that occurred in the skyway near Opus Hall on the Minneapolis campus.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, an unaffiliated female reported she was robbed at knifepoint by an unidentified suspect. The victim reported to Public Safety that she was traveling in the skyway over the 900 block of Lasalle Avenue, walking towards the Target building. The victim stated the suspect approached with a knife in his right hand and demanded her phone.

The victim gave the suspect her phone. The suspect then fled on foot towards the lobby area between MOH and the Minneapolis FAIR School. Public Safety officers could not locate the suspect upon check of the area. The Minneapolis Police Department was contacted.

The suspect was described as a black male, 16 to 18 years old, 5’ 8” tall, with short black hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The University of St. Thomas believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist in identifying the perpetrator of this incident.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is urged to call the Minneapolis Police Department at (612) 348-2345, or Public Safety at (651) 962-5100.
